The Schmutzer Collection

This is a collection of carvings done at the request of Joseph Schmutzer by the Indonesian artist Iko between 1924 and 1927. Historically the collection is of no mean significance. It represents one of history's successful attempts to create church art in a non-European land, using the artistic forms of the indigenous culture.
